Trinity Sweeps with Game Two Comeback

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team lost their conference double header with Trinity University on Saturday.  They fall to 5-24 on the year and 2- in conference play.

Game One - Dallas 1, Trinity 5

WP: Cat Patterson (9-7)

LP: Karina Campo (4-10)

Trinity took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a pair of defensive miscues by Dallas.  The Crusaders pulled one back in the bottom half of the inning, thanks two a two-out triple by Jennifer Schmalz and an RBI double buy Maddy Murphy.

The second and third innings zipped right along as the two teams combined for just one hit, before Trinity extended their lead with a run in the fourth and two runs on three hits in the fifth.  The Crusaders threatened in the fourth and sixth innings, getting runners in scoring position in each frame, but the timely hits eluded them and nothing would come of those chances.

Murphy was 2-3 in the game with the Crusaders's lone RBI.  Karina Campo went 5.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on nine hits.

Game Two - Dallas 4, Trinity 5

WP: Cat Patterson (10-7)

LP: Devinne Green (0-10)

After a quiet first two innings, the Crusaders took the lead when Macy Waddell scoerd from third on a wild pitch in the third.  The Crusaders appeared to be in the driver's seat, scoring three runs on four hits in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead; Trinity Aguero and Madison Coutts each came up with two out base knocks to extend Dallas' lead.

But Trinity, who had only managed three hits through the first four innings, answered back in the fifth with four runs on three hits, helped along by two walks and a hit batter.  The game still teid in the seventh, Trinity nearly put the nail in the coffin runners on second and third and no one out.  Devinne Green got the next batter to pop up, and then a line out double play to Trinity Aguero got the Crusaders out of the inning unscathed.

The Crusaders went down in order in the seventh, sending the game to extra innings.  The Tigers led the inning off with a double, then had the go-ahead run 90 feet away with one out.  The next batter would drive in the run to give the Tigers the lead and complete the comeback.  Dallas would get the tying run to second base in the eighth, but would advance no further, giving Trinty the win and the series.

Sara Hey was a perfect 3-3 on the day with a stolen base; she is now 7-8 in her last three games.  Jennifer Schmalz went 3-4, tallying six hits over her last three games.

The series will conclude tomorrow.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
