Centenary Takes Series with Double Header Sweep

SHREVEPORT, La. - The University of Dallas softball team lost their conference double header with Centenary College on Saturday.  They fall to 5-19 on the year and 2-6 in conference.

Game 1 - Dallas 4, Centenary 7

WP: Katelyn Moss (4-2)

LP: Karina Campo (4-8)

 

The Crusaders got on the board first.  After leading off the game with a single and reaching second on an error, Emily Luna made her way to third on a groundout, then came all the way around to score on a wild pitch.  They doubled their lead in the second on a sac fly by Annabel Anderson, bringing in Jennifer Schmalz.

Centenary answered back in the second inning, scoring three runs on four hits to take the lead.  The Crusaders only managed a pair of baserunners and failed to score across the next four innings, while the Ladies added runs in the third and the fifth to extend their lead to 7-2.  Anderson struck again for the Crusaders in the seventh with a two-run home run, but those would be the last runs of the game for Dallas.

Anderson went 1-2, recording all three of the Crusaders RBI's in the game.  Karina Campo threw all seven innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out two.

 

Game 2 - Dallas 3, Centenary 6

LP: Caitlynn Freyman (1-3)

 

Dallas opened the scoring once again in game two, Lizette Sosa driving in Emily Luna with a single in the third inning.  But once again, the Ladies replied right away in the bottom half of the inning with four runs on two hits, taking the lead for good.

Centenary added insurance runs in the fourth and fifth innings, with Dallas cutting into the deficit in the sixth, scoring two runs on four hits.  They had the chance to bring home more with runners on first and second with two outs, but the Ladies limited the damage on got out of the jam.  Dallas went down in order in the top of the seventh, giving Centenary the win and the series.

Emily Luna, Lizette Sosa, and Maddy Murphy all had multi-hit days.  Caitlyn Freyman went 1-2, driving in two fo the Crusaders three runs.

The series will conclude tomorrow with a single game.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. from Schreveport.
