Crusaders Drop a Pair to St. Thomas

HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Dallas women's softball team lost their conference double-header with St. Thomas this Saturday afternoon.  They fall to 3-14 on the year and 2-3 in conference play.

Game 1 - Dallas 0, St. Thomas 8

WP: Lindsey Longuet (6-2)

LP: Karina Campo (2-6)

St. Thomas was in firm control from start to finish in game one.  The Crusaders got what would be their only hit of the game in the first inning on an infield single by Lizette Sosa, but she would be stranded at first base.  The Celts took the lead with three runs on four hits in the first and never looked back.  They piled on five runs on three hits and an error in the second, giving themselves an early 8-0 lead.

The Crusaders managed to get a couple of baserunners on a pair of walks, but could do nothing with them.  A tough game at the plate for Dallas meant the Celts were able to hang on to their eight-run advantage and end the game after five innings.

Game 2- Dallas 3, St. Thomas 10

WP: Mallarie Munson (1-1)

LP: Caitlynn Freyman (1-2)

The Celts took an early lead again, going ahead 1-0 in the first on a two-out error by the Crusaders.  They would make it a 4-0 lead with three runs on three hits in the third, but Dallas would halve the deficit thanks to a two-run home run b Bri Hale in the fourth.  After four and half, they had pulled back within one run on an RBI single by Jennifer Schmalz.

But St. Thomas would answer right back with four runs on five hits in the fifth.  The game was put effectively out of reach after a scoreless top of the sixth by Dallas and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth by St. Thomas.  The Crusaders were set down in order in the seventh, and the Celts sealed the series win.

Madison Coutts went 3-4 in the game.  Schmalz had a stolen base, and Hale's home run was the only extra base hit of the game for the Crusaders.
