Crusaders Drop a Pair of Games in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Dallas softball team lost both of their non-conference games on Sunday.  They were defeated by Webster 21-1 in five innings, then lost to Rhodes 12-7.  They fall to 0-8 on the year.

Game 1 - Dallas 1, Webster 21

WP: S. Shepard (1-1)

LP: D. Greene (0-3)

The Gorloks put the hurt on Dallas early, scoring seven runs on five hits in the first inning.  The Crusaders were able to answer back in the bottom of the inning, but just managed to score what would be their only run of the game.  Webster continued to pile on the runs in the second, plating eight runs on five hits to take a commanding 15-1 lead.  Dallas tallied just two hits across the next four innings while Webster added to their tally to see out what would be a comfortable five inning win.

Game 2 - Dallas 7, Rhodes 12

WP: B. Fleming (3-0)

LP: K. Campo (0-3)

Dallas got off on the right foot in their second game of the day, plating three runs in the top of the first on two hits and two errors.  The Lynx answered back in the bottom half of the inning, but the Crusaders limited them to two runs to hold onto their lead.  Rhodes tied it up in the fourth with an RBI triple, but Dallas bunted home the go-ahead run in the fifth.

The teams continued to trade blows; Rhodes took the lead with a two-RBI single in the fifth, then the Crusaders reclaimed the lead with three runs on back-to-back hits by Madison Coutts and Bri Hale in the sixth.  But the Lynx surged forward with seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the inning, giving the Crusaders a five-run hill to climb down to their final three outs.  The Crusaders were put down in order as the Lynx sealed the win.

Madison Coutts went 2-4 with an RBI single, and Bri Hale went 1-4 with three RBI.
