Crusaders Fall to Webster and Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Dallas softball team lost both of their non-conference matchups on Saturday.  They fell to Webster University in a neutral site game 3-0, then lost to the hosts Rhodes College 13-8.

Game 1 - Dallas 0, Webster 3

WP: R. Waggoner (1-0)

LP: K. Campo (0-2)

Though Webster jumped out to an early lead, there would be very little action as the two sides found themselves embroiled in a pitcher's duel.  Across the first four innings, the two teams combined for just three hits, with Webster only able to put up two runs in the first thanks to an error and a sac fly.  The Crusaders threatened to close the gap leading off the top of the 5th with back-to-back knocks, but could make nothing of it.

Webster nearly burst the game wide open, loading the bases with no outs in the bottom half of the inning.  But the Crusaders managed to cut off two runs at the plate to limit the damage, escaping the jam while allowing just one run.  Dallas would manage just one more baserunner in the game, however, failing to score in the sixth and seventh to give Webster the win.

Karino Campo went the distance in the circle for Dallas, allowing six hits across six innings with four strikeouts.  All three of the runs she allowed were unearned.

Game 2 - Dallas 8, Rhodes 13

WP: A. Priest (1-0)

LP: D. Green (0-2)

SV: B. Fleming (1)

The Crusaders made a couple of miscues early and the Lynx made them pay, putting up four runs in the first inning on just two hits.  The teams traded blows over the next few innings, but Rhodes still had the edge with a 9-3 lead after five innings.  Dallas nearly ereased the deficit in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on five hits the pull themselves within one.  Maddy Murphy put the exclamation point on the inning with a two-out, two-run double down the left field line.

Unfortunately, the Lynx answered in kind in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four runs on five hits.  Three of those four runs were scored with two outs.  The Crusaders couldn't reignite that same spark in the seventh as Rhodes saw out the win.

Emily Luna went 3-4 in the game with three singles and three RBI.  Maddy Murphy and Madison Coutts each went 2-4 with two RBI.
