UD Softball Swept at No. 3 Texas Lutheran; Have Makeup Doubleheader at Ozarks Scheduled on Tuesday

SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas softball team completed a three-game conference series last Friday and Saturday at No. 3 Texas Lutheran University. It was a tough sweep for the Crusaders against the 2019 NCAA Division III National Champions.


(Game 1 Information) (F/5)

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and were able to break away with a six-run third to take the series opener on Friday.

The Crusaders had hits from Annabel Anderson (Midlothian, Texas) and Madison Coutts (Tampa, Fla.), which were the top two hitters in the lineup. Maggie Watts (Arcadia, La.) logged three innings in the start and allowed nine runs on 10 hits. Emily Martin (San Jose, Calif.) pitched a scoreless fourth.

TLU tallied 11 hits with Kelly Jurden (2-2) Sarah Metzer (2-3) and Haley Padilla (2-2) registering multi-hit games. Cassety Raines knocked three runs in and had one-of-three TLU doubles.

Ashlyn Strother struck out seven in four innings and worked around a pair of hits. She did not allow a walk.

The Crusaders fell in the first-of-two games on Saturday. It was another two-hit game for UD, as Brenna Kelly (Missouri City, Texas) and Karina Campo (Georgetown, Texas) recorded hits. Campo's base knock counted for a double and Kelly swiped a steal.

Texas Lutheran mustered a run in all four innings with five in the second and four in the third and fourth. The Bulldogs compiled 10 hits headlined by the top four spots in the lineup reaching. Jurden had a team-best three hits and scored four runs. Rebecca Snow logged four RBI behind a pair of hits that counted as a home run and double for the only extra-base hits in the game. Metzer had a hit, run, and RBI, and Skylar Ouellette walked four times.

Ouellette did not allow any walks and had a one-hit shutout through four innings. She struck out two. Lexi Coward threw the last inning and would allow the other UD hit.

Dallas had Martin in the circle, and she threw all four innings and allowed 10 earned runs.


Game 3 Information (F/5)

The series finale saw Dallas get off the snide with three runs in the fourth inning. The damage had been done already as TLU started with five runs in the fifth and added six runs over the next two innings to go up 11-0.

The Crusaders scoring started with a double by Kelly to right center field that drove in Liz Cordova (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Coutts. Caitlyn Stevenson (Reno, Nev.) singled Kelly later, as UD finished with three hits. Cordova and Kelly wacked doubles for the Crusaders.

TLU also matched its runs count with hits by tallying 15. Eight of them were for extra bases highlighted by Padilla and Bailey Hudgeons homers. Hudgeons went a perfect 3-for-3 with her other two hits going for doubles, and she was one-of-three Bulldogs with a trio of RBI. Raines and Padilla were the others to notch the feat. The Bulldogs also ran a lot with seven stolen bases.

UD's Watts started the second time on the weekend and went two innings. Four of the nine runs were unearned. Campo and Devinne Green (Riverside, Calif.) each threw an inning in relief.

Raines went four innings for the Bulldogs and worked around the hits and runs Dallas had. She walked two. Coward got the last three outs. Neither pitcher recorded a strikeout.

Dallas has a quick turnaround with its only non-conference opponent this spring at University of the Ozarks on Tuesday, April 13 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Livestats and video will be available for the game.
