Crusaders Take 2nd Game Over Hendrix with a Walk-Off in 8th
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas softball team split its doubleheader with Hendrix College on Sunday. After falling 10-1 in a five-inning game to start the day, the Crusaders rallied down 2-1 to force extra innings in the second matchup.
The Crusaders knotted the game with Karina Campo (Georgetown, Texas) RBI single that scored Liz Cordova (Oklahoma City, Okla.) in the sixth. After withstanding threats by Hendrix in the next two innings, Mackenzie Tano (Wylie, Texas) ripped a single to left that was mishandled and allowed pinch-runner Emily Martin (San Jose, Calif.) to score the game-winner.

The Warriors struck for 10 runs over the last four innings played with a quartet coming in the fourth and fifth frames of the game. Campo started for the Crusaders and went 3.1 innings. She had a scoreless first inning, but the visitors broke the tie the next inning.
Kinsey Bryant drove in the first run for Hendrix with a sacrifice fly to right field. In the third inning, Karli Sewell tripled in Jaydan Hunt. The Warriors had a huge game at the plate notching 16 hits and seven for extra bases. Bryant would drive in her second run of the game in the fourth. Hunt tripled to left center to push two more across, and Sewell doubled to right to give the Warriors a 6-0 edge.
Dallas got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but allowed four more runs in the fifth to finish off the run-ruled final.
Sewell highlighted the offense with a 4-for-4 game, missing just a home run for the cycle. She had a pair of doubles. Hunt contributed a 3-for-4 with three RBI and two triples. Every starter for the Warriors recorded at least one hit.
Hailey Jones earned the win with four innings. She scattered six hits and struck out four while not allowing an earned run.
Six Crusaders scattered hits. Caitlyn Stevenson had one of the knocks and stole a base. Hitters four through seven also added a hit. Campo finished with 3.1 innings tossed. She surrendered six runs on nine hits. She and Haley Henson (Chandler, Texas) both fanned a pair.

This game was a low-scoring outing with neither side getting through until the third. Cordova got UD on the board with a run-producing double to right center that brought in Julie Duenas (Houston, Texas). Dallas posted three hits that inning but were only able to get the single run.
Hendrix countered with two in the fifth to grab its only lead of the day. Avery Coldci and Sewell managed ribbies to flip the lead. Despite a 10-8 advantage on hits, the Warriors were unable to capitalize.
The Crusaders strung together another three-hit inning coming in the sixth. Cordova, who reached base all four times this game – singled to center. After being moved around the bases on a couple of outs, Campo laced a single to center for her fourth RBI on the campaign.
Paige Rasmussen (El Campo, Texas) pitched a complete game effort. She allowed 10 hits and two runs, but held the game at 2-2 until Dallas was able to scratch across a game-winner.
A pair of runners were left on in the seventh and eighth for the Warriors, but the freshman pitcher for UD maintained composure to escape.
Cordova singled for her third hit in a row and to keep her perfect in the box started the home eighth. Rasmussen walked and Martin came out to run for Cordova at second. Tano smacked her only hit of the game, but it was the biggest as it put the final touches on a 2-1 comeback.
Cordova had a 3-for-3 and was hit by a pitch. Bri Torres (Cypress, Texas), Duenas, and Mel Savala (Bryant, Texas) recorded the remaining hits not mentioned yet for the home team. Rassmussen walked one and fanned four to complete her line in her second win over the weekend.
Savannah Draud threw five complete innings, allowing a run on three hits. She received a no decision, as Emily Stockalper got saddled with Hendrix's first loss of the season. Her line was five hits, two runs (1 ER), and a walk. Bryant had another strong game at the plate with three hits. Laura Mortan tallied two.
Dallas had dropped its past four extra-inning games dating back to March 16, 2017, against University of Scranton. This includes three games a season ago. The Crusaders played Hendrix to a 2-1 setback in eight innings in 2016. The 3-1 start is the best since 2008 when the Crusaders won their first three to open the spring.
