FIRST PITCH

The University of Dallas Softball Team (1-3) will host Sul Ross State University (0-3) for a doubleheader on Sunday at 11 a.m.

It is the second of three-straight twin bill series at the home confines in Irving, Texas. The Lady Crusaders are still in search of their first win after falling twice a week ago in the home-opener.

RECAP OF OPENING WEEKEND

Dallas has dropped three in a row after claiming a 7-0 shutout in game one of opening day at LeTourneau University. UD pounded a season-best 14 hits to double its run total and sophomore Katie Lee (Houston, Texas) garnered the win by blanking the YellowJackets for seven frames.

The Navy and White would drop a tightly contested 5-3 affair in the nightcap. Sophomore Ciara Stewart (Crockett, Texas) posted a pair of RBI on a double to knot things 2-2 in the third inning.

At Crusader Field, the home team would plate a trio of runners in the sixth frame, but it was not enough as a large 3rd inning lifted University of Texas at Dallas, 8-4. The Comets would also claim a 9-1 triumph in the second matchup of the afternoon.

QUICK HITS

  • Junior Erin Begle (Houston, Texas) paces the Dallas offense with eight hits and a .533 batting average. She also boasts four RBI, a team-high, and has tallied a double and triple thus far.
  • A trio of Lady Crusaders have mustered five hits apiece including: sophomores Allison Kotlar (Edna, Texas) and Avery Finch (Jamul, Calif.), and freshman Madison Goforth (Tyler, Texas).
  • Sophomore Lyda Tesauro (Hollywood, Fla.) has clobbered three of her four hits for two-baggers.
  • Finch has swiped five stolen bases in just as many attempts. UD is 14-of-16 with successful steals.
  • Lee holds a 3.86 earned run average in 16.1 innings and has struck out 10 while walking three.

SCOUTING SUL ROSS STATE

The Lobos remain in search of their first win of the 2015 campaign after being swept in a three-game set versus University of Texas-Tyler. Every contest was decided in five innings. SRSU has yet to play a game at its home venue, and Sunday's games makeup the rain-outs that occurred two weeks ago.

Leading the Red and White in hits with two of the squad's four is Shelby Doederlein. Jessica Castellan and Dominique Lopez hold the other ones. Six different arms have pitched in the circle in the young season for Sul Ross State.

These programs last met on the diamond in 2013 with the Lobos claiming both victories at Irving, Texas. SRSU posted 12 runs in each affair to secure the 5-inning finals, while Dallas was shutout and totaled three in the second contest.

UP NEXT

Dallas will be back on the diamond about a week from now with two games on Feb. 21 versus Millsaps College. The non-conference doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.
