Softball bested by Southwestern University, drops both games of doubleheader to Pirates

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The University of Dallas softball team (4-18) battled Southwestern University on Saturday in a road doubleheader, suffering two tough losses to the Pirates. Southwestern took Game 1, 16-0, while defeating the Lady Crusaders in Game 2, 15-0.

Game 1: Dallas 0, Southwestern University 16 (F/5) Boxscore

In the first game, Southwestern ran rampant on the basepaths, totaling 15 hits (seven doubles) in five innings. Junior right-handed pitcher Jessica Mollner (St. Paul, Minn./Convent of the Visitation School) and senior Cheryl Hinze (Houston, Texas/Langham Creek H.S.) pitched for Dallas, allowing only four walks out of 32 batters faced.

Offensively, freshman Meredith Noe (Sugar Land, Texas/St. Agnes Academy) registered Dallas' lone hit of the game, a single to the pitcher in the 5th inning.

The Lady Crusaders looked to bounce back in Game 2 after the frustrating loss.

The second game against Southwestern, however, was almost a carbon copy of Game 1. Mollner and Hinze allowed 15 hits against the high-scoring Pirates. Noe, again, broke-up Southwestern's no-hit bid in the 5th inning, with a single.

From Game 1 to Game 2, Dallas allowed one less run and two fewer walks.
