Men's Cross Country ETBU Invitational Results: Hogan & James Top 5; Dallas 4th Place

MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Dallas men's cross country team competed in the East Texas Baptist University Invitational on Saturday. Dallas ranked fourth place with 117 points out of the Division III programs. This was the first 8K race for the Crusaders this fall. Making 8K debuts for UD included: Thomas Hogan (St. Louis, Mo.), John James (Metairie, La.), Andrew Maal (Pueblo, Colo.), Maximilian Wilson (Houston, Texas) and Andrew Mitch (Toronto, Ohio). 

Hogan continued his great start to his collegiate career with a second place finish of 27:18.01. This marks back-to-back meets the Crusaders' latest SCAC Runner of the Week (Week 3) has earned second in the standings and two points or fewer. Hogan's debut at this distance was the fastest time since 2016 graduate Ryan McAnany (Kansas City, Kan.) ran a 26:49.48 in the NCAA South Regional in 2014. 

James, another conference Runner of the Week (Week 1) broke the top five out of a field of 73 runners within the DIII participants. His time was clocked at 27:43.75 minutes. Peter deTar (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) ran a 51-second personal record with a time of 30:44.54 and was third highest for the Crusaders. 

On the team side, the University of Texas at Tyler (46 points), University of Texas at Dallas (60), and McMurry University (66) completed the top three places on the podium.

UP NEXT

Dallas has begun a stretch of three consecutive Saturday's with a race. Next up is University of Ozarks Invitational on October 8. The following weekend on the 15th is the one home competition for the Crusaders.
