Cross Country Competes in Tyler Lee Classic
In the second meet of the 2010 campaign the Dallas Cross Country team ran in the Tyler Lee Cross Country Classic hosted by UT-Tyler. The men's squad fielded 9 runners in an 8k run featuring 10 schools. The Dallas women fielded 11 runners in a 6k featuring 6 schools. The men finishing 7th, while the women finished 4th.
Leading the effort for the women's team once again was freshman Mary Jones (Oneida, WI/Notre Dame Academy). As the top finisher for UD she finished 10th overall out of more than 75 competitors with a time of 26:02. Only 13 seconds and three spots behind her however, was sophomore Catherine Sercer (Fort Scott, KS/Fort Scott H.S.) at 26:15. Finishing third for UD and 23rd overall was freshman Brittany Martinez (Eagle, ID/Bishop Kelley H.S.) with a time of 27:15. Junior Heather Capozzella (Enid, OK/Enid H.S.) finished with a time of 28:16, good for 37th overall and fourth for UD. Finishing 53rd and 56th were senior Renee Yackley (Houston, TX/St. Agnes Academy) at 29:36, and junior Patsy Craig (Hillsdale, MI/Hillsdale Academy) at 30:02.
For the men, freshman Clement O'Reilly (Front Royal, VA/Warren County H.S.) scored the fastest time at 29:17 to finish 22nd overall. Behind him and finishing 34th overall was sophomore Alex Bukaty (New Orleans, LA/Jesuit H.S.) with a time of 29:58. Senior Billy Gibula (Richmond, TX/Strake Jesuit College Prep) finished third on the UD squad and 67th overall at 33:34. Seven seconds later freshman Juan Pablo Mata (The Woodlands, TX/St. Thomas H.S.) finished 69th overall with a time of 33:41.
