UD Women Win Gerry Garza Invitational, Men Take Third
In their first meet of the 2010 cross country season the University of Dallas men's and women's teams each competed in two separate runs with UT-Dallas and Northwood University in the Gerry Garza Invitational in Cedar Hill, TX on Friday, September 3. The women, who finished first, ran a 2 mile distance while the men placed third in the 3.05 race.
Leading the ten athlete women's squad and finishing first overall with a time of 12:49 in the 2 mile competition was freshman Mary Jones (Oneida, WI/Notre Dame Academy). Behind her fourth place was freshman Laura Redlinger (San Diego, CA/Patrick Henry H.S.) with a time of 13:38. Finishing fifth overall was fellow teammate sophomore Heather Capozzella (Enid, OK/Enid H.S.) with a time of 14:17. Finishing sixth overall and fourth on the UD squad at 14:21 was freshman Brittany Martinez (Eagle, ID/Bishop Kelly H.S.). At seventh overall with a time of 14:32 was senior Renee Yackley (Houston, TX/St. Agnes Academy. Finishing sixth for UD and 11th overall with a time of 15:08 was junior Patsy Craig (Hillsdale, MI/Hillsdale Academy). Finishing 12th overall was senior Jessica Twining (Magnolia, TX/Anderson-Shiro H.S.) with a time of 15:24.
For the 8 member men's squad, freshman Clement O'Reilly led the Crusader effort finishing fifth overall with a time of 17:28. Following close behind at 17:39 and sixth overall was sophomore Alex Bukaty (New Orleans, LA/Jesuit H.S.). Third on the UD squad and 13th overall was senior Billy Gibula (Richmond, TX/Strake Jesuit H.S.) with a time of 19:30. Finishing 16th overall at 20:49 was freshman Juan Pablo Mata (The Woodlands, TX/St. Thomas H.S.) and 17th overall at 21:14 was junior John Norton (Louisville, KY/Holy Angels Academy).
The Dallas Cross Country teams will head to Tyler, TX for their next meet the weekend of September 11 for the UT-Tyler Invitational.
