UD Teams Place Third at Home Invitational

UD hosted its annual invitational on Saturday, October 10th for both the men and women’s Cross Country squads. The meet, held on campus featured an 8 kilometer run for the men and a 6 kilometer run for the women. Attending the event were UT-Tyler, Ottawa College, Texas Lutheran, SWCC, UT-Dallas, and Wiley College.

For the UD women, senior Angela Cuba (Holiday, TX/Holiday, H.S.) recorded the team’s top time and the 3rd spot overall with a time of 27:41:45. Not far behind her were sophomore Heather Capozzela (Enid, OK/Enid H.S.) at 9th with 30:01:51, freshman Megan Deras (Omaha, NE/Duchesne Academy) at 12th with 30:12:74, junior Theresa Smart(Peoria, IL/Richwoods H.S.) at 18th with 31:43:74, junior Aida Manganiello (Lindale, TX/Lindale H.S.) at 19th with 32:05:81, and freshman Katie Piescik (Vienna, VA/Home School) at 20th with a time of 34:46:48.

Leading the charge on the men’s side was senior Greg Pivarunas (Elma, NY/St. Francis H.S.). His time of 29:29:76 proved tops amongst his teammates and was good for 3rd overall. Finishing behind him were freshman Alex Bukaty (New Orleans, LA/Jesuit H.S.) at 13th with 32:26:55, freshman Clinton Heyer (Waterford, WI/Waterford Union H.S.) at 17th with 34:55:97, junior Billy Gibula (Richmond, TX/Strake Jesuit College Prep) at 19th with 35:44:91, freshman Paul Sampson (Stayton, OR/Regis H.S.) at 20th with 35:49:36, senior Andrew Natali (Appleton, WI/Appleton North H.S.) at 25th with 40:13:24, and Justin Callan with a time of 40:41:68.

Both teams finished 3rd overall with the men recording 72 points and the women scoring 61. Their next meet is scheduled for Saturday October 17th, at Northwood University in Cedar Hill, TX. The start time of the race has yet to be decided.
