Pivarunas Has Top Ten Showing at State Championship Meet
Participating in the DIII Texas State Championships in Seguin,
TX, senior men’s cross country captain Greg Pivarunas (Elma,
NY/St. Francis H.S.) led the way for the Crusaders with a ninth
place showing and a time of 27:57.2. As a team, UD finished fifth
with 152 points, narrowly edging out LeTourneau University. Also
competing for the men were Alex Bukaty (27th), Clinton Heyer
(36th), Paul Sampson (40th), Billy Gibula (47th) and Andrew Natali
(50th).
On the women’s side, the Lady Crusaders turned in a strong
effort, despite being without their senior captain Angela Cuba. The
top finisher for UD was Heather Capozella (21st) coming in with a
time of 27:47.2. Rounding out the lady’s squad was Megan
Deras (23rd), Theresa Smart (46th), Aida Maganiello (49th), Laura
Downes (50th), Catherine Piescik (52nd).
The teams will return to Seguin, TX to compete in the North Texas
Invitational on October 2nd in nearby Denton, TX at 5:30pm.
Following that will be UD’s annual Crusader Invitational on
Oct. 10th.
