Crusader Harriers Travel to Denton, Pivarunas Records Personal Best
Both the men and women Crusader cross country teams traveled to
Denton, TX this Friday to run in the University of North Texas
Cross Country Invitational.
On the women’s side, senior Angela Cuba (Holliday,
TX/Holliday H.S) again led her team with an 11th place finish in
the 5k race with a time of 20.05. Also finishing the race for the
Crusaders were freshman Megan Deras (Omaha, NE/Duchesne Academy)
who placed 33rd with a time of 22:27, sophomore Heather Capozella
who placed 36th (Enid, OK/Enid H.S.), junior Theresa Smart (Peoria,
IL/Richwoods H.S.) who placed 37th, and junior Aida Maganiello
(Lindale, TX/Lindale H.S.) who placed 38th.
Senior Greg Pivarunas (Elma, NY/St. Francis H.S.) was the top
men’s finisher, as he crossed the line in 27:43, which was
good enough for 16th place. The race marked his best 8k time in his
four year career and placed him 5th in the UD record books. His
best 8k finish up to that point was 27:48. Other Dallas finishers
were freshman Alex Bukaty who finished 27th in 32:10 (New Orleans,
LA/Jesuit H.S.), freshman Clinton Heyer who finished 31st
(Waterford, WI/Waterford Union H.S.), freshman Paul Sampson who
placed 32nd (Stayton, OR/Regis H.S.), and junior Billy Gibula who
finished 33rd (Richmond, TX/Strake Jesuit College Prep).
The next race for UD is their annual cross country meet on the UD
campus this Saturday, October 10th at 9:00am. Show your support for
the UD runners and first year coach Dore Madare by attending this
weekend’s home race.
