Cross Countrys Cuba Dominates in Abilene
The UD men’s and women’s cross country teams
participated in their second meet of the year this weekend, as they
traveled to Abilene, TX to participate in the McMurry Invitational.
While both teams struggled as a whole against some very strong
completion, each side did have individuals who had very successful
races.
On the women’s side, Angela Cuba (Holliday, TX/Holliday H.S)
had a career weekend, winning a collegiate race for the first time
in her career. She ran the 6k race in 25:08, matching her finish at
the Texas State Meet hosted by McMurry University last season. Also
finishing in the top twenty was Heather Capozella (Enid, OK/Enid
H.S), who finished 17th in a time of 28:18.
On the men’s side Greg Pivarunas (Elma, NY/St. Francis H.S)
had another strong performance. He managed to run the required 8k
in a time of 27:53 which was good enough for 4th place. Wrapping up
the top twenty for UD was newcomer Clinton Heyer, who ran 32:19 on
his way to 19th place.
The Crusaders have off until they travel to Seguin, TX for the
Division III Texas XC Championships on Saturday September 26th.
