Olmsted Named SCAC Newcomer of the Year

SUWANEE, Ga. - Following exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon that Johny Olmsted was named the conference Newcomer of the Year.

Olmsted made his presence known immediately, becoming the first ever UD athlete to break the 50 second barrier in the 400m in his very first meet.  He would go on to break his own record two more times throughout the season, finishing the season with a PR of 48.39.  Of course, the week prior to setting that record, Olmsted won the SCAC Individual Title in the 400m with a time of 48.43.  He became the third Crusader to do so, joining Kevin McGuirk (400m hurdles - 2019) and Prince Gialdolor (100m - 2016).

Olmsted's selection as Newcomer of the Year marks the second time in program history a Crusader has been selected, as Gialdolor took home the award in 2016.
