McGuirk Takes Home Gold Medal in Men's 400-Meter Hurdles; Garners School Record In 5th Straight Competition

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The University of Dallas men's track and field team wrapped up the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championships hosted on the campus of Trinity University on Saturday. Kevin McGuirk (Front Royal, Va.) secured the men's first gold medal in three seasons after he broke his own school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.84. This mark helped Dallas gain 10 points on the final day of competition. McGuirk became just the second men's track athlete in school history to secure a gold medal in the conference championships. Prince Giadolor was the other UD athlete to garner a first-place finish in 2016 after he won the 100-meter dash.


- McGuirk also ran in the 110-meter high hurdle race. He finished with a mark of 17.79 for sixth place and notched one point for the team.

- Cecilio Huitron (El Paso, Texas) collected a Personal Record (PR) in the 100-meter dash finishing in 13th place with a time of 12.12. Huitron also secured a PR in the 200-meter (25.43) for 11th place.

- Solomon Schroder (Coupland, Texas) competed in the 100-meter dash (13.13) finishing in 15th place. In the 200-meter dash Schroder came in 12th with a time of 26.87.

- Rashid Coombs (Houston, Texas) set a new PR in his 200-meter dash on the day for an 8th place finish (23.20).

- Tomas DePetris (Houston, Texas) came in 9th place in the 800-meter run 2:02.53 (PR).

- The Men's 4 x 100 relay which consisted of Coombs, McGuirk, Nat Kajiwara (Southlake, Texas), and Isaiah Hayes (Arlington, Texas) made a 4th place finish with a mark of 45:58 (Season-Best) to grab four points for Dallas.

- The Men's 4 x 400 relay led by Coombs, DePetris, McGuirk, and Hayes also finished 4th for a season-best time of 3:31.21 (4 points).

Dallas finished in fifth place with 25 points. Texas Lutheran University took home the crown with a team score of 236 points. Trinity University finished second with 190 points, while Colorado College came in third overall (101 points). UD finished ahead of Schreiner University and Johnson & Wales University (CO).
