SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's track and field team competed in the Texas Lutheran University Bulldog Relays on Saturday to start the 2017 campaign. The Crusaders set a new record in the all-relays competition, with some new competitors making their debuts. The record was set in the 1600m Sprint Medley (400-200-200-800), which was the first time Dallas competed in the event.

A squad of throwers also got to run in a co-ed 4x100m that was just for field competitors only. The throwers' relay race is a fun competition that is exclusively included at the TLU Bulldog Relays. The TLU Bulldog Relays was a successful warm-up meet for the Crusaders and allowed the Crusaders an opportunity to get an early look at an SCAC competitor (Texas Lutheran) and build much needed team chemistry. The team had several members out due to illness and injury; but should have almost all team members back for the Trinity Open on Saturday.

NOTABLE RESULTS

- Garnering a 3:57.40 record in the 1600m Sprint Medley record included: Thomas Pierick (Des Moines, Iowa), Kevin McGuirk (Front Royal, Va.), Dominic Del Curto (Oakdale, Calif.) and Jack Grubner (Needham, Mass.)

- McGuirk and Frank Villanueva (Anthem, Ariz.) made their first collegiate debuts on Saturday. Will McEvoy (Dallas, Texas) ran last season but debuted as a thrower in the Discus Throw.

- Marcos Carmona (San Antonio, Texas) posted a Personal Record (PR) in the discus by almost a full meter with a throw of 31.12. He also threw in the Hammer Throw.

- McEvoy, Paulo Salazar (Dallas, Texas), and Carmona made up a trio of guys that ran with Hassink from the girls side in the 4x100m relay.

- Due to injuries and illnesses the distance relays (4x8 & 4x16) were dropped after one leg. Dallas athletes were combined into the first leg to provide more competition and then stepped off after the first leg of the event.

QUOTABLE

"I hope to PR at every meet. Achieving a PR is a great source of confidence. Also, I have a goal to break the Hammer Throw record this season." Marcos Carmona on his first meet performance of the season

UP NEXT

Dallas is back on the track next Saturday in the Trinity Open. This is another familiar race on the calendar from last season.
