Carmona shatters Historic Record; Men's Track and Field USCAA Results
DELHI, N.Y. – The University of Dallas men's track and field team concluded the 2016 campaign with stellar performances at the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Championship. The team notched 69.5 points to claim fourth place within the USCAA Division II programs.
A pair of school records were bested in the competition, as sophomore Marcus Carmona (San Antonio, Texas) threw a 31.28 meter distance in the Hammer Throw. The previous school record was set on March 21, 1908. That was the inaugural season for Holy Trinity College (now University of Dallas). The mark recorded was 95 inches and seven feet.
The other school record broken for the third straight meet was the men's 4x100 Meter Relay with a 44.05 second time. Sophomore Dominic Del Curto (Oakdale, Calif.), junior Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas), junior Thomas Pierick (Des Moines, Iowa), and freshman Prince Giadolor (Rockwall, Texas) improved on their record breaking score from last weekend by .10 seconds.
NOTABLE RESULTS
- As mentioned above, the 4x100m quartet of runners notched second place with a 44.05 time.
- Carmona shattered a personal record (PR) with a 31.28m throw in the hammer, which ranked him a season-high third place (six points).
- Carmona was the lone participant for the Crusaders in the field events, and added two points apiece on the Discus Throw (30.35m) and Javelin Throw (30.36m). His discus toss was a PR.
- Defending Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) champion, Giadolor, took second place in the 100m. He ran an 11.21 second time. Prior to that, Giadolor did improve on his preliminary score (11.26) and had won that heat.
- Holdridge compiled 6.5 points altogether by sharing 5th place in the 400m with a 51.42 mark. He added a sixth place display in the 200m by running a 23.67 second result. Freshman Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) rounded out the top eight board in the 400m with a 53.56 time.
- Senior Ryan McAnany (Kansas City, Kan.) podiumed in the top three (six points) by racing a 4:09.25 time in the 1500m. He added a 2:03.69 in the 800m run to notch fourth (five points).
- Senior Jack Grubner (Needham, Mass.) was a few seconds shy of his PR in the 1000m set last spring. He did crack a season-best to place fourth (five points) on Saturday with a time of 36:25.62.
- Pierick (1:03.26) and Del Curto (1:03.87) claimed sixth (three points) and seventh (two points), respectively in the 400m hurdles.
- Senior Javier Secaira (Tacoma, Wash.) earned eighth (1 point) in the 5000m with a 17:13.74.
- Senior Jacob Loel (Phoenix, Ariz.) and freshman Caine Mongeau (Little Elm, Texas) competed in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase. Loel scored a 10:58.85 in his career debut on the event, and Mongeau broke a PR by clocking an 11:49.53.
