Pivarunas Sets Men’s 1500 Meter Mark, Deras Extends UD Women’s 800 Meter Record

Freshman middle distance runner Megan Deras (Omaha, NE/Duchesne Academy) and senior distance runner Greg Pivarunas (Elma, NY/St. Francis H.S.) continue to set new standards for the University of Dallas track team.  At the Twilight Invitational hosted by Trinity University in San Antonio, Deras extended the 800 meter record she already surpassed this season and Pivarunas broke the 1500 meter record set over four years ago.

In Friday's meet consisting of schools of all sizes, Deras placed third in the 12 person 800 meter race to finish in a time of 2:22.22.  Her exploits continued on the same Trinity track that she first broke the 800 meter mark with a finish of 2:24.52 on March 6.  Pivarunas was fresh off of his own 800 meter record setting performance last Saturday in Conway, AR, this time with a focus on moving up and breaking the 1500 meter mark.  He didn't disappoint himself or the UD fans by running a first place race in 3:58.69, breaking the previous standard of 3:59.66 set by Mark Landreneau in a race the 2006 season.

The Dallas track team looks to continue the precedent of record setting performances in Saturday, April 24's Bethel Invitational in North Newton, KS.
