Men's Tennis Notches First Win vs Sul Ross

LAS COLINAS, Texas - The University of Dallas men's tennis team won their non-conference match against Sul Ross State 7-2 on Saturday, notching the program's first win since its revival for the 2022-23 season.  The Crusaders improve to 1-13 on the year.

JP Ellwanger (pictured) and Noah Dreisbach dominated their line one doubles match to pick up the first point for UD, winning 8-2.  

There were tight battles at lines two and three, with one going each way.  Cayven Yi and Gus Holleman were beaten 8-6 at line two, while Jude Lagarde and Paul Wolfe Jr. edged out their opponents 8-6 at line three to give Dallas the 2-1 lead going into singles play.

The Crusaders nearly swept singles play.  Ellwanger won 6-3, 6-0 at line one, marking the second time this season he claimed both the singles and doubles point.

Yi picked up his first singles win of the year at line two, winning 6-3, 6-1.  Wolfe Jr., Lagarde, and Dreisbach all also picked up their first singles points of the year.  Wolfe Jr. won 6-3, 6-3 at line three, Dreisbach won 6-2, 6-2 at line five, and Lagarde won in dramatic fashion at line four; after splitting the first two sets, he won 10-8 in the tiebreaker to win 6-3, 3-6, 10-8.

Holleman put in a strong showing in his debut for the team, but was defeated 6-2, 6-4 in his line six singles match.

The Crusaders have one more regular season match before the Conference Tournament.  They will face LeTourneau University on the road on Saturday, April 20 at 10:00 am.
