Crusaders Fall to Trinity University on Friday

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team fell to Trinity University 5-1 on Friday evening. The Crusaders (4-10-1, 2-5-1 SCAC) were outshot 25-5 in the game. UD had one shot on frame from Jose Martinez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras), which resulted as his first goal of 2019. Trinity (10-4-2, 6-2 SCAC) broke the scoreless tie in the 12 minute as Armaan Islam scored. This 1-0 score held up at the halftime break. Four second half goals for the Tigers broke the game wide open in the final period.  

After the first half goal by Islam, Josh Davis then found the back of the net in the 48th and 61st minute to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Seven minutes later Martinez then broke through the Tigers defense and scored to put Dallas on the board. Connor Jones and Jack Downes later found goals of their own to give Trinity a 5-1 lead and eventually the win.

Sean Carlin (Puyallup, Wash.) made six saves on the night playing all 90 minutes in goal for UD. Nat Kajiwara (Southlake, Texas) led the Dallas attack with three shots. Chima Ogueri (Garland, Texas) added one shot for the Crusaders in the match. Martinez scored the goal for Dallas on his only shot of the contest.

Josh Davis paced the Tigers with four shots, including two goals, while Jack Downes notched four shots as well, with one goal. Blake Lieberman made zero saves and allowed one goal for the victory in goal.  

TU won the corner kicks battle 7-0.

Dallas will play at Schreiner University on Sunday in the regular season finale. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
