Taylor Headlines SCAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Awards

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) announced the 2018 All-SCAC Men's Soccer Team on Thursday. The University of Dallas had three players receive honors, with Sean Taylor (Austin, Texas) being named to the All-SCAC First Team. Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) and Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) were selected to All-SCAC Second Team.

Taylor of the University of Dallas, a senior defender earned a SCAC First Team accolade after starting in all 15 games for the Crusaders. Taylor had a career-high three goals, which was tied for second on the team. His converted penalty kick on September 30th helped lead Dallas to an upset win over No. 8 Trinity University at the time. Taylor also added an assist in the win over Schreiner University on September 28th, for a career-best seven points. Taylor received SCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week in week five after Taylor led the Crusaders to a perfect 2-0 mark in SCAC play which included a shutout victory against Schreiner and handing Trinity its first loss of the season. Taylor earned his second career all-conference award, after he was awarded All-SCAC Second Team in 2016.

Reynolds was named to All-SCAC Second Team. Reynolds, a sophomore midfielder, led the Crusaders with a career-high in goals (4) and points (12). He also led the team for the second-straight year in assists, with four in 2018. His two goals on October 12th against Schreiner University helped push the Crusaders to the 3-2 victory. Reynolds also assisted on the third goal for a game-high five points.

Ciancone was named to All-SCAC Second Team. Ciancone, a senior midfielder, tied Taylor with three goals on the season. He scored the Crusaders lone goal on October 5th in double-overtime to push Dallas past Johnson & Wales University. Taylor, who started all 15 games for the Crusaders, also contributed two assists for eight total points. He led Dallas to a 5-0 win against Schreiner University with three points on September 28th. This is the third all-conference award that Ciancone has been granted. He earned All-SCAC Honorable Mention in 2016 and All-SCAC Second Team in 2017.

Coaches voted for first team and second team – with each voted team consisting of three defenders, three midfielders, three forwards, one goalkeeper and one at-large selection. A first-team vote was worth two points and a second-team vote was worth one point. Any player who received at least two different votes from the coaches but did not receive enough votes to earn either first or second team honors, was named Honorable Mention. Coaches could not vote for their own players.

Dallas was selected as the 5th seed in the conference tournament hosted by Southwestern University this Friday through Sunday. The Crusaders will play Texas Lutheran University on Friday at 11 a.m.
