Crusaders End Regular Season With OT Loss at Texas Lutheran

SEGUIN, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team fell in overtime 2-1 to Texas Lutheran University. The Crusaders (8-7, 7-6 SCAC) have now played back-to-back overtime games. Dallas, who finished out the regular season part of their schedule, had a 2-2 record in overtime games in 2018.

TLU outshot Dallas 6-3 in the first half, but neither team had many close shots to disrupt the goalkeeper play. Nate Riddle (Millsboro, Del.) and Chima Ogueri (Gardland, Texas) had two shots on goal, but were both saved by the TLU keeper. The teams went into the half tied at 0.

In the second half, both teams started out early with more shots on goal. Each goalkeeper made nice saves along the way to keep it tied. In the 79th minute Guillermo Guerra broke the scoreless tie with a penalty kick for his third goal on the season. The Bulldogs had two shots blocked in the next few minutes. Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) had a header shot just high of the goal in the 85th minute. One minute later Haugland found Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) who took a strike from 10 yards out from the right side to beat the goalie and tie the match at 1. Neither team made any stride in the final five minutes, as the game went to overtime.

In overtime the Crusaders were shutout on the stat sheet. TLU had a couple of shots close, as one was saved, and another hit the post in the 93rd minute. But in the 97th minute Luis Green dribbled up the middle and found the bottom left part of the net seven yards out for the golden-goal. Nicholas Medina assisted on the play.

Reynolds led the Crusaders with three shots, putting all of them on goal. Haugland and Tomas DePetris (Houston, Texas) both followed their teammate with two shots each. Sean Carlin (Puyallup, Wash.) made three saves in the game at the keeper position.

Luis Green led the Bulldogs with five shots, putting two of them on goal. TLU outshot Dallas 18-10, but both teams had five shots on goal in the match. Brendan Soto made four saves for TLU in goal.
