DePetris leads 2nd Half Comeback; Crusaders nip Southwestern on Senior Day

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team edged out Southwestern University 2-1 on Senior Day. The Crusaders (8-5, 7-4 SCAC) were led by Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) and Tomas DePetris (Houston, Texas) who both scored their first goals on the season. DePetris also picked up an assists on the Haughland goal.

Southwestern (9-5, 7-4-1 SCAC) outshot Dallas 19-14. The Pirates also had the advantage in corner kicks (8-4). The Crusaders forced the Pirates keeper to get to work early by making him create five saves in the first half. The Pirates also put five shots on goal. Southwestern broke the scoreless tie in the 36th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. Alex Newell converted to put the Pirates up 1-0 at half time.

Dallas came out strong in the second half as with just six minutes in, Haugland got a nice pass from DePetris in front of the goal and he beat the keeper right for the equalizer. Both teams fought hard throughout the match. The Pirates had 10 shots in the half, but only three were close. UD got a nice opportunity in the 68th minute when the Crusaders got a free kick just outside the box. DePetris took the kick and beat the keeper right to grab the lead for Dallas. Southwestern had four shots down the stretch, but were unable to find the late equalizer.

Haugland led the Crusaders with six shots taken, putting five of them on goal. Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) also notched two shots on goal in the match.

Jacob Chimento (St. Louis, Mo.) got the nod in goal for Dallas. He picked up his first career win as a keeper on Senior Day. Chimento made six saves, allowing only the successful penalty kick.

Southwestern was led by Theo Perisic who took four shots. Alan Carr made eight saves out of 10 opportunities as the Pirates keeper.  

UD improved to 5-2 at home on the season. 

Southwestern entered this week ranked 9th in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III West Regional Poll. Three teams in the top-10 currently have opposed the Crusaders this season with Trinity University (1) and University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (6).

Dallas will finish out the regular season with two conference road tests. The Crusaders will travel to Southwestern University on Friday (10/26). Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. UD will then visit Texas Lutheran University on Sunday (10/28) at 12 p.m.
