Bulldogs Slip by Dallas 1-0

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team dropped a tight match against Texas Lutheran University 1-0 on Friday night. The Bulldogs (9-5, 8-4 SCAC) were led by Luis Green who headed in the lone goal on the night in the 34th minute. The Crusaders (7-5, 6-4 SCAC) outshot TLU 21-10 in the match on a rainy night with wet field conditions.

Dallas took 12 shots in the first half, making the TLU keeper work hard. Both teams had decent opportunities to break through, but the goalkeepers saved anything close through the first half. Dallas was able to create four corner kicks, but nothing came of it. In the 34th minute Green scored his 14th goal on the season, which leads all Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) teams. Nicholas Medina crossed the ball from the right side to Jared Esparza, who found Green for a header goal that beat the goalie right. That score would take the teams to halftime.

The second half saw 23 fouls by both clubs, but Dallas had opportunities to find an equalizer with nine shots taken, making TLU make four saves. Nicholas Medina almost struck the dagger for TLU when his shot hit the right post in the 68th minute. Dallas made some late shots, but were unable to beat the Bulldogs keeper.

Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) led Dallas with five shots taken, putting all of them on goal. Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) followed right behind his teammate with four shots.
