Eric Haigh Scores Golden Goal in Double OT against Schreiner

KERRVILLE, Texas - The University of Dallas men's soccer team was tested on Friday afternoon as they went to double-overtime with Schreiner University. Eric Haigh (Frisco, Texas) scored the golden goal in the 106^th minute for the Crusaders to pick up the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference 3-2 win. Both teams took 18 shots in the contest. The Crusaders (7-3, 6-2) have now played two double-overtime games in the last three games. Dallas has come out on top in both of those games.

Schreiner had a couple of early opportunities to score as they caught the goalie out of position, but the Dallas defense held its own and defended their own goal well to keep the game scoreless.

In the 22^nd minute Chase Reynolds (Southlake, Texas) scored his second goal on the season from an assist from Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas). The goalie came out of the box and was caught out of position, as Reynolds was able to find the left side of the net, with the goal wide open.

Reynolds was not done offensively, as he struck the ball from the right side in the 42^nd minute to beat the goalie left. Jose Martinez (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) assisted on the second goal. 23 seconds later Schreiner answered with a goal by Kevin Escalera from the top of the box that found the bottom left corner of the net just out of reach from the diving hands of Carlin. The Crusaders had a couple of shots that went wide, but nothing came of it. Schreiner was awarded a penalty kick in the 44^th minute that was made by Trey Brittenum for the half-time equalizer.

The Mountaineers had a couple of close opportunities late in the 2^nd period, as one shot hit off the crossbar, and another shot was just wide. Dallas put pressure on the Mountaineers goalie but were unable to get it past him. Schreiner outshot Dallas 15-13 through regulation.

In the first overtime period both goalies made incredible saves to keep the game even. Shots were tied at 17 after the first OT period. Haigh scored the golden goal in the 106^th minute for his first goal on the season as he took a shot outside the box from the left and found the top right corner of the net over the outstretched goalie's arms. Reynolds assisted on the goal.  

Reynolds had a big statistical day as he scored two goals, assisted on the golden goal, and took six shots on the day. Nat Kajiwara (Southlake, Texas) added four shots, putting three of them on goal. Sean Carlin (Puyallup, Wash.) made three saves in goal on the day out of five opportunities.

Brandon Anselmi made seven saves for the Mountaineers out of ten shots faced. Brittenum led Schreiner with four shots taken, putting three of them on goal. Jacob Williams matched him with four shots.  

Dallas has now won the last four meetings against Schreiner.
