Men's Soccer Upsets No. 8 Trinity 2-1
IRVING, Texas -The University of Dallas men's soccer team upset No. 8 Trinity University 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Brady McNamara (San Antonio, Texas) was the hero of the game as his 58th minute goal became the difference maker. The Crusaders (4-2, 3-1 SCAC) snapped Trinity's 20-game winning streak against conference opponents dating back to when they defeated them in 2017 in San Antonio.
Ryan Hunter gave Trinity (8-1-1, 6-1 SCAC) a first half advantage as he broke the 0-0 tie with his fifth goal on the year in the 39th minute. The Tigers had a chance to go up 2-0 with a penalty kick in the 41st minute, but Sean Carlin (Puyallup, Wash.) made a huge save to keep the Crusaders within reach. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Dallas came out blazing in the second half. Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) put a nice shot on goal, but was saved by the keeper. Trinity fouled a Dallas player in the box, which led to a PK. Sean Taylor (Austin, Texas) made the PK to even the game in the 53rd minute. It was his third of the season and second on the home stand.
Six minutes later, Eric Haigh (Frisco, Texas) found McNamara for an easy walk-in goal with the goalie out of position. Dallas found themselves on top with 31 minutes remaining in the second half. Trinity was only able to get one shot on goal for the rest of the period, as both teams contiuned to get shot opprtunties.
Sean Carlin faced five shot in goal, making four saves on the day. Ciancone led the team with four shots taken. The Crusaders were outshot 19-13, but took nine shots in the second half. Brady Johnston led the Tigers with 5 shots taken.
Dallas has won the first meeting during the regular season three of the last four years against the Tigers. Two of those meetings were at home.
