THE LEAD

The University of Dallas men's soccer team begins Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play at Colorado College on Friday. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. Mountain Standard Time. The Crusaders will play their next 11 straight matches against conference opponents.

Dallas is 1-1 on the young season and are coming off a 2-1 setback in double overtime last Saturday at Howard Payne University. The Crusaders are currently on a four-game road trip that includes another pair of road matches next weekend.


UD NOTABLES

- Nat Kajiwara (Southlake, Texas) has two of the team's three goals and etched four points from them. This includes the golden goal in UD's overtime victory on Friday versus George Fox University.

- Tomas DePetris (Houston, Texas) is responsible for the other three points on the squad with an assist and his first collegiate goal as well at Howard Payne.

- The Crusaders have played 204:50 minutes in two matches with both going to extra time. The last time the men's soccer program played three straight overtime contests was in 2006. UD won 4-3 at Austin College (September 23rd), drew 1-1 at home versus Colorado College (28th), and won 1-0 at Illinois Wesleyan University (October 1st).

- Dallas was selected sixth in the SCAC Preseason Poll, which is also where it finished in 2016. Its record was 4-8-2 against league foes.


OPPONENT NOTABLES

- Colorado College is 1-1 this year after splitting two road matches last weekend. The victory included a 2-1 final win over No. 23 ranked Luther College. Its most recent match was a 1-0 decision to Wartburg College.

- After the Tigers home opener, they head out for another road trip that will be four games long through Sept. 19th.

- Robert Malone and Griffin Wesley are responsible for each of the team's goals. Tim Huettel, Sam Markin, and Cam Stopforth have compiled an assist apiece for three overall.

- The SCAC Coaches Preseason Poll tabbed CC for 2nd in the standings. Last season, that was the Tigers final spot in the regular season as they went 12-2 and were runners up in the conference tournament.

- Dallas went 0-2 last season against the Tigers.

- The contest in Colorado Springs was a 2-0 result. Both goals occurred in the first half, with Tim Huettel and Caden Mackenzie netting them.

- Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.) and Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) recorded a shot on goal apiece. They are the lone returners to put a ball on frame, as UD accumulated four altogether.

- The Crusaders are 2-10-5 in the overall series.


UP NEXT

Dallas remains on the road for two matches down in the San Antonio area. The first stop is at Trinity University, who have won the past five SCAC Tournaments. The Tigers were ranked 12th in the United Soccer Coaches Division III Preseason Poll. Kickoff for the Sept. 15th match is for around 8 p.m. The Crusaders wrap up the road trip on Sunday at Schreiner University with kickoff set for about 2 p.m.
