THE LEAD

The University of Dallas men's soccer team (6-5, 3-4 SCAC) wraps up the final two matches that are part of a season-long, six-game stretch at home. Dallas welcomes Schreiner University on Friday with a 2 p.m. kickoff and then top ranked Trinity University on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Crusaders are deadlocked with Austin College in a tie for fourth place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) standings through the halfway point of league action.

Dallas is coming off a 4-0 victory last Sunday against Centenary College of Louisiana. Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) tallied the first two goals in the opening stanza and Luke Schwarz (Tucson, Ariz.) and Chima Ogueri (Garland, Texas) registered the final two goals to complete the third shutout of the campaign.

UD NOTES

- Holdridge ranks atop the leaderboards on the team with 14 points and six goals. His goal total lists him in a tie for second in the SCAC. Holdridge also cracks the top five for his point accumulation.

- Schwarz and Ogueri complete the top three scoring column with goal totals of five and three, respectively. Schwarz has notched four of his on penalty kicks, which the junior has perfectly converted in each opportunity.

- There are six UD players with a pair of assists: Holdridge, Ogueri, Schwarz, Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas), Garrett Hammer (Colleyville, Texas), Trae Hampton (Paducah, Ky.), and Sean Taylor (Austin, Texas).

- Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) has made 36 saves in 944:16 minutes between the posts. The goalkeeper is fourth in the SCAC for goals allowed average being a 1.33-clip.

- Dallas broke last season's goal total on Sunday and now has 26 this fall. That bests 2015's 18-match mark by three. The highest amount of goals in the season is five, which came on the season opener against Howard Payne University. UD has posted four goals in a quartet of matches, including two conference.

UD SEASON STATS

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS

Schreiner (2-10-1, 1-6 SCAC) plays in Irving, Texas, for the second stop of a three-game road trip. The Mountaineers were topped 1-0 on Tuesday in a non-conference loss at Howard Payne. Schreiner has played its past four conference matches in extra regulation, including the previous three in a row going double overtime. SU is 1-4 during that stretch and 1-5-1 on the road overall.

The leading scorer for the Maroon and White is Alan Aviles with three total. He also is atop the team leaderboard in points with seven. Trey Brittenum and Eddie Martinez each have multi-scoring seasons with a pair. Robert Hensley is tied with the two with four points off a goal and two helpers. The goalkeeper role has been shared by Brandon Anselmi and Blake Lawson this year. Anselmi has made 11 appearances (10 starts) and logged 784:41 minutes with 45 saves. Lawson has 29 saves in 450:55 minutes.

Schreiner Season Stats

In the earlier meeting at Kerrville, Texas, the Crusaders prevailed 3-0 in their first SCAC win this season. It was scoreless at intermission, before the road team pulled away. After an early own goal to break the tie, Schwarz and Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) added goals to lift Dallas to a triumph. It was also Gamueda's lone clean sheet as he made four saves.

The most recent outing by these squads at Crusader Field in 2015 resulted in a 1-0 victory for UD. Ciancone used his golden foot on a pass from Stephen Gahan (Vancouver, Wash.) to  end the thriller. Ciancone was able to earn SCAC Player of the Week after netting game-winning goals that weekend against these same upcoming opponents now.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

Trinity (11-0, 7-0 SCAC) remains undefeated and maintained its position atop the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll. After some nail-biting road wins that were decided by a goal two weeks ago, the Tigers posted a pair of 4-0 shutouts at home last weekend over Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University.

Brent Mandelkorn headlines the offense for the Tigers with six goals and 17 points. Austin Michaelis is tied with Mandelkorn in assists with five and has just as many goals to give him 15 points. Christian Sakshaug rounds out the trio of double-digit players in points with 10. Six of those are from his team-leading assists results. Laurence Wyke and Ryan Hunter have chipped in four goals apiece and have nine points just below the double figure point threshold. Todd Whittaker has 26 saves through 909:51 minutes and ranks second in the league with a 0.59 goals against average.

Trinity Season Stats

When these programs met at San Antonio, Texas, last month, the Tigers prevailed 2-0. Despite nine saves, including four by the Crusaders; The second-ranked team in the nation at the time broke through on a goal by Machaelis in the 68th minute. Hunter sealed the win in the 87th minute as Machaelis finished with five points on the match. Hammer had two of UD's seven shots.

A year ago Dallas upsetted the No.1 Tigers at home in a 1-0 victory for its first ever in program history. Ciancone punched the difference-making shot as Gahan also had the helper. This occurred in the 81st minute and Gamueda ended a clean sheet with six saves.
