Men's Soccer blanks Centenary on Sunday 4-0

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team (6-5, 3-4 SCAC) tallied a pair of goals in both halves to match the most goals scored against a conference opponent for the second Sunday in a row, as Centenary College was blanked 4-0. Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) scored twice within about four minutes apart in the opening stanza, and Luke Schwarz and Chima Ogueri solidified their respective spots of second and third on the squad in goals with one apiece in the final 45 minutes.

It is UD's third shutout this season and second against a league opponent. It is the first home game to keep an opponent off the board this campaign. The last time to hold the opposition scoreless at Crusader Field was the regular season finale in 2015 against Colorado College in a tie. The last shutout win was a year ago against the same opponent Sunday but was a 1-0 decision.

Neither team got a shot attempt until the Crusaders' Ben Mannings (Bath, England) kicked a ball that hit off the post at the 8:32 minute mark. Centenary would get its first shot a little above a minute later on a Nick Hammond kick that was blocked as a result.

Holdridge tallied a goal to give him back sole possession of the team-lead with five. It came at the 17:05 mark and was assisted by Trae Hampton (Paducah, Ky.) and Schwarz. He was able to take the through ball and finish inside on the right side of the goal.

At the 21:02 mark, Holdridge struck again for a double assisted goal that he recovered on the left side of the goal and sent across the other side past a diving Centenary goalie. Mannings started the sequence with a long ball in from the top right side just beyond midfield. John Langsfeld (Albuquerque, N.M.) was positioned past the left part of the goal and got a pass back in front of goal for the senior who is one away from a personal best.

Schwarz knocked his fifth goal of the year and maintained his perfect success rate in penalty kicks with four at the 58:15 juncture of play. Ogueri concluded the scoring with his third of the season and second on the home stand with a goal in the 82nd minute. Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) and Sean Taylor (Austin, Texas) earned the double assists as Taylor stopped a ball in front of the opponent's bench and on play progressing toward the Maroon and White's net.

QUOTABLE

"Good bounceback win. We used a different setup in the front line and it worked well. Forwards in particular had a positive impact by defending from the front." -Head Coach David Hoffmann on key to Sunday's win
