Big 2nd Half Propels Men's Soccer to 1st SCAC Win Friday

KERRVILLE, Texas – A scoreless first half changed quickly to favor the University of Dallas men's soccer team with an own goal by Schreiner University in the opening minute of the second half of a 3-0 Friday afternoon win for the visitors. The Crusaders (4-2, 1-1 SCAC) captured their first conference victory of the fall and scored for the first time since starting 3-0 nearly two weeks ago.

Both squads played even in the first 45 minutes with four shots being taken on both sides. UD's Andrew Ciancone (Houston, Texas) and Barton Holdridge (Fort Worth, Texas) attempted the first two shots of the match around 10 minutes into the frame. The lone shot on goal was a header from Holdridge at the 18:22 minute mark that was corralled by Schreiner's goalkeeper Brandon Anselmi.

The Mountaineers had a miscue less than a minute into the second stanza, and that proved to be the difference as Dallas proceeded to tack three goals enroute to the second shutout on the campaign. The own goal was scored at the 45:39 mark. This is the second time in 2016 UD has scored less than a minute into a half, and third time less than two minutes. Both of the previous occurrences were in the opening half.

Luke Schwarz came through with his team-leading third goal of the season for the Crusaders first individual goal and points of the tilt.  His netter came in the 66th minute with an assist from Naseem Said (Pearland, Texas). That was Said's first point of the year after making his third straight appearance. Finally, Hunter Haugland (Bixby, Okla.) rounded out the scoring just over five minutes left until the horn. The freshman punched his second collegiate goal and was double assisted by Jake Schnell (Austin, Texas) and Joseph Quiray (Sugar Land, Texas). It was Schnell's second helper on the season.
