THE LEAD

The University of Dallas men's soccer team begins the 2016 campaign at home versus Howard Payne University on Thursday at 3 p.m. After the team's lone non-conference match at the friendly confines, UD heads on a six-game road trip. The first pair on this stint are at University of Ozarks for neutral site tilts. On Saturday, September 3 at 2 p.m., the Crusaders face Hendrix College. The next day at 2 p.m., the stretch of three games in four days concludes with Rhodes College.


3 THINGS TO KNOW

- Dallas plays four of its 18 contests out of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play. All three road matches against such opponents are on neutral turf.

- Senior Barton Holdrige (Fort Worth, Texas) is the team's leader in points from last season with 14 off a team-high seven goals. Both marks also were career-highs.

- Senior Tino Gamueda (Lubbock, Texas) compiled five shutouts (four shutout wins) as he allowed 20 goals (1.11 average) and made 71 saves (78.0 save percentage).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

(HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY)

The Yellow Jackets were selected to finish 9th in the American Southwest Conference (ASC) pre-season poll. HPU posted a 4-10-1 record in 2015. Alex Sanchez was the team's leading scorer with five goals. Sanchez, Tracer Moore, and Collin Slayers all received nods on the ASC Players to Watch.

2015 Season Stats

The programs last met in 2014 at Crusaders Field and Howard Payne won a 1-0 overtime decision. Gamueda did play 45 minutes in the goal and saved the only shot he faced. Senior Ben Mannings (Bath, England) placed two of his three shots on goal.

Dallas is 5-4 in the all-time series.

(HENDRIX COLLEGE)

The Warriors open the new season on Saturday when the teams face each other at University of Ozarks for a weekend tournament. Hendrix will face the host team on Sunday. The Warriors went 3-10-3 last season.

2015 Season Stats

These squads last met on the pitch in 2013 when the Crusaders traveled to Rhodes College for a neutral site matchup. UD prevailed 2-1 as the navy and white utilized a 2-0 halftime advantage. Gamueda worked the second half in goal and hauled in three saves with a goal allowed. Holdridge is one member still on this current roster with multiple shot attempts (3). Senior Stephen Gahan (Vancouver, Wash.) and Mannings each attempted one.

Dallas is 13-7-3 in the all-time series.

(RHODES COLLEGE)

The Lynx open against Ozarks on Saturday and then will complete the weekend in a neutral site battle on Sunday. Rhodes is coming off a 7-6-4 season and compiled 26 goals.

2015 Season Stats

The same weekend as mentioned above, these teams last faced in Memphis, Tennessee, with Dallas blanking the Lynx 1-0. Mannings provided an assist on the only goal in the 43rd minute. Gamueda recorded a 45-minute second half performance of no goals allowed. He made two saves.

Dallas is 1-1 in the all-time series.


UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Dallas plays the middle portion of its six-game road trip on Sept. 9-10 at Colorado College. The SCAC opener will be against the Tigers at 4 p.m. (3 MST). The next day, UD faces Pacific Lutheran University at 3 p.m. (2 MST) on Colorado College's field. 


FUTURE SCHEDULE CHANGE

The originally scheduled October 28th match with Colorado College has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 29th. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. Current schedule on the website reflects revision.
