SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: Frederick and Trout III from UD Men's Lacrosse

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - For the next two weeks, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference will recognize and honor all of its senior spring sport student-athletes who had their final seasons cut short by the COVID-19 outbreak.

After the NCAA made the unprecedented decision on Thursday, March 12 to cancel all winter and spring championships due to the coronavirus pandemic, the SCAC Presidents Council decided to indefinitely suspend all regular season conference and non-conference competition.

"This was a heartbreaking decision we had to make," said SCAC Commissioner Dwayne Hanberry. "No one wanted it to come to this, but at the end of the day we are tasked with prioritizing the health and well-being of thousands of students and student-athletes on each of our campuses. That has to be the focus above all else."

Although the league held out hope that by only suspeding play a window of opportunity may present itself for an abbreviated spring season with some form of tournament play the following month, with the virus continuing to spread throughout the country which has caused campuses who had originally hoped to remain open to close for the semester, the 2020 athletics season has effectively ended for over a thousand of the league's spring sport student-athletes along with the careers of 100+ seniors.

And even though some of the league's student-athletes may take advantage of a blanket waiver that would grant an additional season of participation, the SCAC office would like to honor and recognize all of its spring sport senior student athletes.

The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team has two seniors in Jake Frederick (Coppell, Texas) and Bogar Trout III (Tecumseh, Mich.) to spotlight. The duo etched their names in the school record books as individuals and were contributors the previous two seasons in the team's offensive record setting marks for points, goals, and assists.

Favorite memory as a SCAC student-athlete:

Bogar Trout IIIBeing a part of a team that broke school records every year and being able to break the Caused Turnover record in under three years.

Jake Frederick | Every time I laced up my cleats and had the privilege to practice and grow with my teammates.

Frederick became the record holder for assists in a single season in 2018 and then increased that mark to 16 in 2019. He is the all-time leader in assists with 34. He propelled himself to a tie for third in the record books for points (68) and eighth for goals (34).

Frederick paced the Crusaders offensively in four matches this spring with nine goals, two assists, and 11 points. He matched a team-high 16 shots on cage and totaled 25 attempts for the most on the squad. Frederick also was the leader in ground balls (28) and faceoff wins (26).

Trout III earned the career caused turnovers record with 50 in 2019 and ends his UD tenure with 56. Trout III spent his first three seasons accumulating stats that ranked toward the top on the team in ground balls and caused turnovers. He moved into a three-way tie for seventh in the ground balls category with 115. He is among 10 players in the program to eclipse 100 ground balls, which was achieved last year.

This spring he was on the offensive side of the ball more with a goal and assist to go with nine shots. He posted 14 ground balls, five caused turnovers and won seven faceoffs. He appeared on SCAC Men's Lacrosse Media Days the past two seasons and was a leader for the Crusaders in multiple facets.

Trout III lettered three seasons, while Frederick had two letters the previous two seasons healthy. The two also were part of the first SCAC All-Conference Teams for the program in 2019. Frederick was on the All-SCAC First Team, while Trout III was tabbed Second Team.

Thank you Frederick and Trout III for your commitment to the University of Dallas men's lacrosse team over the last four seasons, and we wish you success on your future endeavors.
