FIRST FACEOFF

The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team is back home for the next three matches, with the home stand beginning on Wednesday, February 28th with Johnson & Wales University (CO). Gametime is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.

The Crusaders (2-1) are feeling good after winning the last two contests. Their most recent victory was a 17-8 road result at Fontbonne University. J. P. Hasson (Fairfax, Va.) netted a team-high five goals and the team posted its 3rd highest scoring output in program history. UD matched the second highest team total in assists (11).


THREE THINGS TO KNOW FOR UD

- The most goals scored in a game in 2017 was eight. The past two outings, the Crusaders have notched nine and 17 totals.

- Both UD and its opponents have placed 54 shots on cage. Dallas has a little higher percentage at 67.5 compared to 57.4.

- Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, Wash.) leads the team with 12 points and nine goals. He has been highly efficient with 11 shots and 10 shots on goal. Smith has totaled a team-high 14 groundballs and 19 faceoff wins. Paul Mosimann (Manassas, Va.) adds 14 faceoff wins and was 8-for-12 last Saturday.

- Tomorrow's matchup is first one for these teams in Irving.

- The Wildcats won last year 12-8. Dallas trailed 7-0 in the first 17 minutes, but outscored them 5-2 in the second half (3-0 in 4th). Smith and Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) each had a pair of goals. Ben Blessard (Falls Church, Va.) and Bogar Trout III (Tecumseh, Mich.) also had netters.


SCOUTING THE WILDCATS

- Johnson & Wales begins the 2018 season with Dallas on Wednesday. There were a couple exhibitions scheduled earlier this month. At least one was cancelled.

- Last season, the Wildcats wen 3-8 with all victories coming at the friendly confines.

- JWU is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Next academic year (2018-19) it will be joining the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).

- Coleton Threlkeld scored four goals in the head-to-head meeting last year, and returns to this year's roster.


UP NEXT

Dallas continues its five-of-six home match stretch with another pair of games remaining into the first weeks of March. On Saturday, March 3rd the Crusaders host Hendrix College at 3:30 p.m. On the 9th, Dallas hosts Alfred University with a same start time. The UD women's lacrosse team will be playing prior.
