SUNY Oneonta overwhelms Crusaders Monday

IRVING, Texas – A high powered offense for SUNY Oneonta (1-2) proved too much against University of Dallas men's lacrosse on Monday afternoon. The Red Dragons scored at least three times per quarter, including combining for 11 in the first 30 minutes en route to a 19-2 final. Dallas (2-4) has dropped both contests at home this season and looks to bounce back Thursday.

NOTABLE STATISTICS

- Christian Lopez (Las Vegas, Nev.) secured a personal best 27 saves against 46 shots faced. His save total surpassed all saves from last season and is 3rd all-time in program for single game.

- The all-time saves record holder, Ryan Murphy (746) amassed 26 that campaign. Lopez's total on Monday is most since Murphy's school record in a single match against Hendrix College on February 13, 2015 (36).

- Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, Wash.) scored a goal and tied Lopez with a team-high six groundballs. Smith won over half his faceoff attempts (13-24) with a season-most (2nd all-time in program for single game). He eclipsed double figures in faceoff wins in consecutive matches and for the 3rd time overall this year.

- Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) scored a goal to keep his streak alive at three. The leading scorer on the team was the first to 10 and added an assist for 15 points.

- SUNY Oneonta spread the offense around with Nick Eiseman and Hunter DeLuca each tallying hat tricks with three apiece. Eiseman pounded 10 shots (match-high) and added an assist.

- Matthew Trudeau garnered a game-high five points with a pair of goals and four assists. Matt Miles was able to dish a trio of assists.

- Andrew Helfman earned the win in 30 minutes between the pipes. He saved his only shot faced. Jack Connery played the remaining 30 minutes and snatched five saves.

- Dallas was outshot 70-12 and 46-8 in shots on goal.

- The Crusaders posted at least seven saves in quarters 2-4.

- UD did win more faceoffs with 13-of-25.

- It was a perfect day for clearing on the Red Dragons possessions (33-33). First three quarters all featured seven successful clears. The guests had a 47-31 edge in groundballs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Less than a minute out of the first possession, SUNY Oneonta claimed its lead for good on a DeLuca goal and assist from Zachary Harned. A little over three minutes went by and DeLuca was tickling the twine on another goal again from Harned on the helper. It was all scoring for the visitors throughout as UD trailed 6-0 at the end of the frame.

A shot by Jacob Tom (Waukesha, Wis.) at 3:40 left in the second period was the first attempt by the Crusaders. It was saved by Helfman for his lone one of the game. The Red Dragons were scorching hot as moments later they had Christopher Lockwood completing a drive down the field on an assist from Matthew Trudeau and opened a double-digit gap (10-0). At halftime it was 11-0.

Ben Blessard (Falls Church, Va.) connected on a short pass to Early two minutes in the next stanza to get Dallas on the board. SUNY Oneonta came back with the final three scoring plays of the half. It carried into the final 15 minutes, as the team from New York added three straight and outscored Dallas 5-1 in the 4th.
