Men's Lacrosse toppled at Southwestern on Wednesday

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team was topped 26-4 on Wednesday evening at Southwestern University. The Pirates (3-1) posted eight goals in the first quarter en route to a big win. Dallas (1-2) dropped its second in a row.

NOTABLE STATISTICS

- Andrew Jones (Austin, Texas) had a pair of goals for the Crusaders to lead the team.

- Jones and Peter Early (San Antonio, Texas) each had three shots for team-highs.

- Early dished a pair of assists for just as many points.

- Tyler Smith (Snoqualmie, WA) scored his first collegiate goal.

- Christian Lopez (Las Vegas, Nev.) garnered a career-high 25 saves.

- Southwestern was led offensively by Matt Amerie and Jared Welsh with five goals apiece. Amerie also dished three assists to tie Spencer Bodenha for a game-best.

- Conrad Littlefield earned the win by playing 40:33 minutes in the goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was a quick start for the Crusaders' opposition as the first netter was obtained in 45 seconds by Amerie. Three minutes later, Southwestern rattled off a trio of goals within about a minute span to push a 4-0 advantage. Amerie scored the second goal with a man-up for SU, and then the leader in points collected his third point in as many goals with a helper for Matthew Montagne.

The Pirates continued their early surge with eight unanswered in the first 15 minutes. Eventually four more goals in the early half of the second quarter bolstered a 12-0 edge.

Dallas ended the run with Jones posting his third goal of the campaign at 5:26 on a man-up goal. Smith dished an assist on the first Crusaders goal. At halftime, the scoreboard favored Southwestern 15-1.

In the third quarter, Smith found the back of the cage on a pass from Jake Frederick (Coppell, Texas). Jones tallied his other goal with 3:27 remaining. Ben Blessard (Falls Church, Va.) regained the team lead in goals with his 4th overall. It was an extra-man opportunity for the team's lone player to score a hat trick this season. Early was credited with his first assists of the year on the last two UD scores.
