YEAR IN REVIEW: Men's Lacrosse

IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's lacrosse team posted a 5-12 record this season. After a cancelled campaign, first year head coach Keith Lindgren guided the Crusaders to its highest win total in history. The output marks a four-win leap since 2013 and is the most since 2011 by one. UD took to the pitch a record breaking 17 times after tallying seven performances in the past two years.

NOTABLE MOMENTS

  • Dallas began the Coach Lindgren tenure with a 10-8 victory versus St. Gregory's University. Sophomore P.J. Hasson and junior Matthew Cyr landed hat tricks in opener.
  • Cyr would pace the Crusaders with 42 goals, 49 points, 143 shots, and 105 groundballs.
  • Cyr and senior Cody Wooten tied the team-lead for assists with seven.
  • Junior Alex Ziolkowski ranked second in goals with 29 and 101 shot attempts. Wooten rounded out the trio of double-digit scorers with 15.
  • Junior Ryan Murphy nabbed 36 saves in the Hendrix College 27-3 setback on Feb. 14 to set a record. Led the NCAA throughout most of the spring with 19.67 saves per game, and remains the top member of the leaderboard.
  • The home confines benefited UD, who went 3-1 in Irving, Texas.
  • Murphy accumulated 986:53 minutes and picked up 301 saves and posted a .527 save percentage on the season.
  • Senior Zachary Wellwerts garnered five of his six-season netters through a four-game streak featuring Centenary College (Mar. 21), Dallas Baptist University (Mar. 26), Johnson & Wales University, and University of Colorado Denver.
  • Team produced season-high 13 goals in victory versus Dallas Baptist University on Mar. 26 during Senior Day. The trio: Wooten, Wellwerts, and Charles Shaughnessy all netted scoring results. Wellwert's lone multi-scoring affair, Shaughnessy's first collegiate goal, and Wooten dished three assists. Cyr and Ziolkowski combined for nine goals.  
  • Cyr pounded five goals in 10-7 victory versus Centenary College on Mar. 1. It was the first of three matches to result in the season-high for the midfielder.
  • Managed five goals, highest in a quarter, to rally to a 10-8 win at Centenary College on Mar. 21.
  • Dallas went 5-0 in games it scored at double figures.

SCHOOL RECORDS

  • Murphy shattered save benchmarks in a game, season, and career. He notched 36 versus Hendrix College, compiled 301 this year, and boasted 438 in his second playing campaign.
  • Cyr earned the record for most points in an individual season with 49.
  • Cyr, freshman Ethan Fuller, sophomore Jacob Tom, Toby Zanini, and Murphy suited up in all 17 contests for the Navy and White, which was a program most.
  • Dallas as a team amassed 578 groundballs to raise the single-season record to that amount.
