Men's Golf in Sixth After Day One of SCAC Championships

WHITNEY, Texas - The University of Dallas men's golf team is in sixth place after the first of three rounds at the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships, hosted at the White Bluff Resort in Whitney, Texas.

Schreiner University leads after day one with a score of 294 (+6), giving them a seven shot lead over second place St. Thomas.  The Crusaders posted a round one score of 314 (+26), leading last place Centenary by three strokes while sitting 10 strokes behind the top three.  

Andrew Bennett of Centenary College is the individual leader with a score of 71 (-1) as the only golfer to finish under par on the day.  Rex Soulliere leads Dallas and is right behind Bennett in second place after shooting 72 (E) in round one; Soulliere leads the field with five birdies through the first 18 holes.

The rest of the Crusaders are in the bottom half of the standings.  Trey Schneider is second on the team with a 78 tied for 21st; he is sixth in the field with 12 total pars on the day.

Mike Zhang finished just one stroke behind Schneider with a 79 and sits in a four-way tie for 23rd.  Antonio Alvarez and Iain Griggs both shot 85 to end the day in a three-way tie for 29th. 

As a team, Dallas is third with 10 birdies and third in Par 5 scoring.

The Crusaders will compete in round two of the tournament Monday morning, with a shotgun start scheduled for 10:00 am.
