Crusaders Take Fourth at Rhodes Spring Classic

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - The University of Dallas men's golf team concluded play in the Rhodes Spring Classic on Monday.  The Crusaders posted a 54-hole score of 922 (+58), finishing in fourth place in the field of nine teams.  They held a 10 stroke lead over fifth place Hendrix College, and were 20 strokes behind third place Belhaven University.

Centre College maintained their narrow edge over the hosts, Rhodes College, winning the tournament with a score of 886 (+22), just five strokes ahead of Rhodes.

Harrison Akers of Centre College was the individual champion, posting a 54-hole score of 221 (+5) after shooting 74 in round three.

Rex Soulliere shot 76 in round three, finishing with a 54-hole score of 227 (+11) to secure a top 10 finish.  He was top 10 in Par 3 scoring, top five in Par 5 scoring, and one of just 11 golfers to record an eagle in the tournament.

Michael Zhang and Trey Schneider weren't far behind Soulliere.  Zhang shot 76 to finish T15 at +13, and Schneider shot 77 to finish T19 at +15 for the tournament.  Schneider led the field in Par 3 scoring as the only golfer to shut under par in the tournament with a 2.92 average.

Iain Griggs and Antonio Alvarez both saved their best round for the final day of the tournament.  Griggs shot 76 to end T30 at +20, and Alvarez shot 80 to finish T47 at +36.  Sei Sato Uehara rounded out the field for Dallas in 53rd at +44 after shooting 87 in round three.

This was the final regular season event for the Crusaders this spring.  They will be preparing for the SCAC Championship, which takes place from Sunday, April 21 to Tuesday, April 23 in Whitney, Texas.
