UD Men's Golf Takes 5th at Schreiner Shootout

KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Dallas men's golf team put together its lowest team score in a round this spring with a 299 on Tuesday, but remained in fifth place out of 11 teams at the Schreiner Spring Shootout at Comanche Trace. Dallas scored a 608, which was a stroke off from University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.

Concordia University won the tournament with an impressive 280 on the second day and totaled a 580. Trinity University was the lone Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) team to top UD with a 590 (299, 291). California Lutheran rounded out the top trio with a 591 (302, 591). Dallas bested Southwestern University (613), University of St. Thomas (621), and Schreiner University (DNF).

The Crusaders had a trio scored within a stroke of each other, as Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas) and Emilio Montalvo (Mexico City, Mexico) led the individuals with a 151 each. The two were part of a quartet in 14th and scored a 74 and 75, respectively, in the second round of 18 holes. Jacob Trevino (Lake Forest, Ill.) carded a 77 for a 152.

Seth McNeill (Plano, Texas) was the next score for UD with a 155 as his best individual mark from the team on that round was a 73 to lower his overall amount. Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.) produced a 156 after not shooting as well compared to his first day with an 81. Robby Evans (Flower Mound, Texas) sent in a 77 to finish with a 158.

Mateo Gavilanes, Phillip Schmitz, and Luis Legarreta formed a three-way tie for first with 141. Gavilanes posted the lowest score of all rounds with a 67 and Schmitz was also beneath a 70 with a 69.

UP NEXT

Dallas is off until March 21-22 for a rare weekend tournament. It will also be the closest one to campus this spring, as the two-day tournament will hosted by UT-Dallas at The Courses at Watters Creek in Plano.
