Crusaders Finish Second at Rhodes College Spring Classic; Montalvo Sets New Low Third Round Record

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The University of Dallas men's golf team finished second out of sixteen teams at the Rhodes College Spring Classic for its best finish of the season with an 858. UD as a team set a low three round record after scoring that mark. Emilio Montalvo (Mexico City, Mexico) set a school record low third round score of 210, after carding a 71 on the day. Montalvo shot -6 for the tournament to finish in fourth place.

Robby Evans (Flower Mound, Texas) carded a 72 on the day to finish it a tie for seventh with a 213 (72, 69, 72). Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas) moved up 13 spots on Tuesday after notching a season-low 69. He placed tied for 19th with a 217 (77, 71, 69).  Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.) finished T-22 with a 218 (75, 70, 73) and +2 overall for the course. Trey Schneider (Mooresville, N.C.) had career-best 75 on the second day of competition, as he moved up eight spots for a total score of 236.

Berry College, who is ranked 22nd among Division 3 schools, won the tournament with an overall score of 845. Dallas finished in second, as Sewanee (ranked 29th) came in third overall with an 861. Dallas also finished above Webster and Rhodes who were both ranked above the Crusaders.

Wesley Heston (Berry College) won the tournament with a 206 after carding a 66 (-10) in Round Three. Preston DeSantis (Berry College) shot -8 for the course for a score of 208 for second. Will Manuel (Maryville College TN) came in third with a 209.  

Montalvo grabbed one eagle on the course and led Dallas with 11 birdies. Evans used 10 birdies to turn in a solid outing, while leading the pack with a 3.97 average in Par 4 scoring. Montalvo led all players with a 2.67 average on Par 3 holes. 

UD finished above conference rival Trinity University (878). Montalvo now has three school records on the season with two coming in this tournament. His prevous low three round record (212) was set at the John Bohmann Memorial Invitational.
