Men's Golf Finishes 4th at UMHB Crusader Intercollegiate

TEMPLE, Texas - The University of Dallas men's golf team completed the final round of the UMHB Crusader Intercollegiate on Tuesday. After starting the 18 holes tied for 7th, the Crusaders improved to 4th with a 623 (321, 302) overall and two strokes behind third-place LeTourneau University. Dallas shot the second lowest round total on the day behind the tournament winners, Concordia University.

Concordia posted the lowest team score for consecutive days to win with a 597 (303, 294). Schreiner University took second with a 610 (306, 304). Dallas did catch fellow Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) foe, Trinity University. The Tigers were 5th with a 629 (312, 317). Overall 11 teams competed in the tournament, with host Mary Hardin-Baylor playing with two squads.

Also jumping in the standings for the Crusaders was Emilio Montalvo (Mexico, Mexico City,) by 10 spots. The sophomore carded the lowest round on Tuesday for UD with a 73 and tied fifth with a 151. Montalvo has led the Crusaders in all three tournaments this fall.

Erik Hamm (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Thomas Schuberg (Camarillo, Calif.) finished even at 159. Hamm improved from his first round by three strokes and hit a 78.

Jacob Wade (Magnolia, Texas) carded the second lowest score for the team on the day with a 74. He has etched that score or lower in four rounds this season.

Seger Howell from Concordia won individually with a 141 (72, 69). His total on Tuesday was the lowest score in a round by all participants. Teammates Travis Skorheim and Phillip Schmitz were part of the top-three with a 143 and 149, respectively. Hank Crain from East Texas Baptist University also carded a 149 to tie for third.

Dallas competes in its final tournament this fall at the Alamo City Classic on October 15-16. Last season, Robby Evans (Flower Mound, Texas) set the single low round record (65) in a comeback round to capture the title.
