Big 2nd Half gives Schreiner the Win

KERRVILLE, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team lost their conference mathcup with Schreiner University 79-75 Friday evening.  They fall to 7-16 on the year and 5-10 in conference play.

The Crusaders got off to a hot start, going five for their first six shots to jump out to a 10-2 lead after less than three minutes.  Dallas' defense was relentless in the first half and made life very difficult for the Mountaineers.  With five minutes left in the period, the Crusaders lead had ballooned to 15 points as Schreiner struggled to get anything going on offense.  Though the Mountaineers would finish the first half with a better shooting percentage (43.5% to the Crusaders 41%), the Crusaders limited them to just 10 field goals and didn't allow a single three pointer in the half.  Dallas would take an 11 point advantage into the break.

While the Crusaders felt the the team in control in the first half, the game quickly shifted in the second half, with Schreiner coming back to within two at 44-42 after four and a half minutes.  But Dallas was able to slowly restablish their cushion, taking a 10-point lead six minutes later at 58-48.  Over the next eight minutes, the Mountaineers outscored the Crusaders 22-9, taking a 70-67 lead with three minutes left on the clock.  It was still anybody's game in the final minute, and the Crusaders were able to carve out a couple of chances, but they couldn't finish.  Schreiner would hang on to complete the comeback win.

Jack Boyle had another outstanding night, leading all players with 17 points and 16 rebounds; he had almost as many offensive rebounds as the entire Mountaineers roster.
