Men's Basketball Beaten by Pirates at the Buzzer

IRVING, Texas - The University of Dallas men's basketball team lost their conference matchup with Southwestern University 68-66 this evening.  They fall to 3-12 on the year and 1-6 in conference play.

As the score would suggest, the contest was even from start to finish, though the Crusaders had the edge for much of the game.  Dallas held the Pirates to less than 10 field goals (8-30) and forced 10 turnovers in the first half.  Neither team was shooting particularly well, but the Pirates dismal shooting from beyond the arc (2-14) and steady production from eight players for Dallas gave the Crusaders a five-point advantage going into the break.

Things were going very much the same way in the second half, with the Crusaders leading by as many as 11 points midway through the period.  But the Pirates went on a 13-2 run to tie the game at 56-56 with 7:19 on the clock, and from there it was anyone's game.  The Crusaders looked as if they could hold on for the win, but the entire complexion of the game changed when Jai Love fouled out with four minutes remaining.  Even still, Dallas had the 66-65 lead inside the last minute, but the Pirates scored the game-winning bucket and got the and-one with 0.1 left on the clock.  The Crusaders couldn't get a chance off with so little time left, and the Pirates took home the win.

Letrell Toussaint and Jack Boyle formed a big partnership for the Crusaders, leading the team with 14 points apiece.
