Wambsganss Interns with NCAA College Basketball Academy

CAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Dallas men's basketball guard Michael Wambsganss (Denver, Colo.) has kept busy this summer with an internship with the NCAA. He has spent most of the internship at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis.

The internship with the NCAA Men's Basketball Department was to work on, organize, and coordinate the first NCAA College Basketball Academy. The Academy is being created to help restructure the recruitment calendar for Division I basketball coaches. Wambsganss, along with 10 other interns from various Division II and III schools across the country have been designated to each region in order to plan and coordinate the details of the NCAA College Basketball Academy. "We spent a large portion of our time in May and June organizing the Academy from the NCAA National Headquarters in Indianapolis," Wambsganss stated. "From July 21-27 we were on site working the Academy and coordinating the events with the commissioners and coordinators chosen by the NCAA Men's Basketball Department."

In addition, during June the interns had a week of Host Seminar with various host cities, athletic conferences, and universities that will be the host sites for the 2020 Division I men's basketball tournament. They had the opportunity to meet those hosts and experience the work that goes into March Madness each year. 

Wambsganss will be a junior this upcoming season. A two-year letterwinner, Wambsganss paced the Crusaders as the only double-digit scorer with 14.3 points-per-game. He also was the leader in rebounds with 157. In UD's first SCAC Championship appearance, Wambsganss made his first 10 field goal attempts and logged career-highs in points with 35 and rebounds with 13.
