Wambsganss and Mathis Land All-Conference Selections

SEGUIN, Texas – In exclusive voting by head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the All-SCAC Awards and Teams were released on Saturday night following the two semifinal contests.

The University of Dallas men's basketball team was headlined by Michael Wambsganss (Denver, Colo.) being selected All-SCAC Second Team. Dustin Mathis (Fort Worth, Texas) was named to the Honorable Mention group.

Coaches voted for 15 places for All-SCAC with 15 points awarded for first-place votes, 14 points for second-place votes, 13 points for third-place votes, etc., down to one point for a 15th-place vote. All players not elected to the First, Second or Third Team, but who received at least one vote, were named Honorable Mention. Coaches could not vote for their own players.

Wambsganss earns his second SCAC All-Conference Award in as many seasons. The sophomore guard has led the Crusaders this season with 13.5 points-per-game (365 points), 65 three-pointers, and 144 rebounds through 27 starts. He is shooting 80 percent (56-70) from the free throw line and has added personal-bests in assists (48) and steals (23). Wambsganss elevated his game by crashing the glass and has notched four double-doubles, including the SCAC Quarterfinals vs. Schreiner University. There have been five games this season he has surpassed 20 points and 19 games he eclipsed double figures. His season-high was 29 points at Austin College (Jan. 29) and he has matched a career-best 10 rebounds in all four contests that were double-doubles. Through two seasons, Wambsganss has totaled 682 career points in two seasons and earned SCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 7 through Jan. 13.

Mathis also has started 27 games this season and is averaging 9.3 points. The sophomore guard has produced a career season, ranking third on the squad in total points (250) and points-per-game. He has drained 47 three-pointers for second behind Wambsganss and is the team leader in assists (90) and steals (25). There have been 14 occasions Mathis has notched double-digits in scoring and has matched a career-high 19 in a trio of them. This includes the SCAC Semifinals versus Southwestern University.

Dallas pulled back-to-back upsets as the number five seed over Schreiner University and Southwestern to advance to its first ever SCAC Championship game against host Texas Lutheran University.
