FIRST TIP

The University of Dallas men's basketball team closes out the 2017 regular season with two games at the Maher Center this weekend. On Saturday, the Crusaders play Colorado College around 3 p.m. to wrap up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play. Senior Day will be Sunday in a non-conference makeup game with Hendrix College. That tip-off is also at 3 p.m. and is the rescheduled December 18 contest.

Dallas started the three-game home stand with a double-overtime thriller on Tuesday, 94-91, versus Arlington Baptist College. The Crusaders improved to 8-15 overall and are 2-11 in the SCAC. Dallas is looking to play spoiler this weekend with the Tigers tied with Texas Lutheran University for second play. Both of those teams are also one game behind conference-leading Schreiner University.


UD NOTES

- Michael Sarrat (Colleyville, Texas) is averaging 12.5 points this season and has notched 17 double-digit scoring performances. His most recent was 16 against the Patriots.

- Tom Kaiser (Nashville, Tenn.) remains the leader in the SCAC and United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) for field goal percentage (72.9).

- The forward has notched double figures in last five-of-six contests and last four in a row.

- During the four-game streak, he has combined for 69 points and been among the leading team scorer in the past three. His 21 points on Tuesday was his 2nd highest season total since a record-setting 45.

- Darrius Colvin (Waco, Texas) and Prince Giadolor (Rockwall, Texas) are also achieving double figures on the squad with 12.3 and 11.6, respectively. Kaiser rounds out the quartet of double-digit scorers with an 11.1-clip.

- Lorenzo Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) is averaging 10.3 points against league opponents. The senior point guard ranks 3rd in SCAC with 105 assists (4.6).

Prior to tip-off on Sunday four Crusaders will be recognized before their final games in the Maher Center. Victor Garate (Austin, Texas), Sarrat, Gonzalez, and Kaiser are among the group to be honored for their four-year dedication to the program.


A LOOK AT THE OPPONENTS

(Colorado College)

The Tigers are 10-14 overall and 9-4 in the SCAC. They are tied for 2nd with Texas Lutheran in the conference standings. CC is coming off a road loss at Southwestern University, 74-61, last Saturday. Prior to that, the Tigers had won three in a row including 89-83 against Texas Lutheran the day before. Colorado College is 3-10 in road contests.

John Hatch (2nd) and Eric Houska (4th) crack into the top five in the SCAC for scoring with 17.7 and 16.9 points-per-game (ppg), respectively. Chris Martin rounds out the top three in scoring with 10.3 ppg. Hatch is 4th in the conference for three-point field goal percent shooting (42.6) and Martin is 2nd behind Kaiser for field goal percentage (57.8). A trio of players have surpassed triple-digits in rebounding led by Martin (157), Hatch (132), and Ryan Young (107). The Tigers have the same amount of rebounds as opponents (844) going into the last contest of the season. Houska has dished 118 assists.

Colorado College Season Stats

Dallas started conference play in Dec. with a 74-55 setback at Colorado Springs. Garate led the team with 14 points and was 3-for-4 from downtown. Giadolor added 12 points. The Tigers scoring damage was led by Hatch with 19, Martin with 16, Cooxooeii Black with 13, and Sean Stem with 12. Hatch, Young, and Martin all led the team with eight boards.

In the game last season at the Maher Center, Colorado College stormed ahead 37-20 in the first half en route to a 75-62 win. Houska scored a game-high 17 points and passed four assists. Gonzalez led UD with 15 points and threw six assists. Kaiser and Giadolor added 11 and 10, respectively.


(Hendrix College)

The Warriors are 11-12 this season while 4-6 in non-conference games outside the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). The most recent game for Hendrix was last Sunday against Centre College in a 67-55 stunner. Centre was first in the SAA. The Warriors host Rhodes College on Saturday to conclude SAA play this season before wrapping the regular season up in Irving. The Warriors are 5-4 on opponent floors and 5-8 away from the home confines this campaign.

Two players have done most of the scoring with Hank Aldous and Preston Smith averaging 16.7 and 16.5 points, respectively. Gearen Littlefield is averaging 9.9 points and concludes the top three scorers on the squad. Jacob Link has grabbed the most rebounds with 141. Aldous and Littlefield are nearly behind with 130 and 128. Link leads the team in assists (96) and steals (30). The team has dished 381 dimes compared to 361 by opponents.

Hendrix College Season Stats

These programs opened their respective campaigns this year in Conway, Arkansas. Gonzalez drained a last second three-pointer to force overtime, which led to the Crusaders winning 89-88. Sarrat finished with 21 points, Kaiser followed with 14, and Colvin added 11. Hendrix was led by Smith with 27 points for a game-high. Littlefield added a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Bryce Parker poured 20 points off the bench.

Last season, Dallas won in the head-to-head matchup 81-69. The home team outscored the Warriors 47-39 in the second half. Giadolor scored 20 points to lead all scorers. Kaiser claimed a double-double with 17 and 15. Gonzalez chipped in 12 points and six assists. Hendrix was led by Bryce Batchelor with 15 points and nine boards. Travis Garrett added 14. Aaron Steele and Bryce Parker tossed in 10 apiece as the bench scored 37 points total.
