HOW IT HAPPENED

Schreiner scored first on a trifecta from Gumbs and never trailed through the duration of Friday's tilt. Kaiser got the Crusaders on the board a little over a minute in and made it a one-point game. After the teams traded baskets, the home squad tallied the next five points to gain some margin. A trey by Luis Mancillas with 14:27 opened a 13-6 advantage.

Colvin made a layup to get within five, but then Paul Wells completed a three-point play at the line and a layup by Jared Thompson opened the first double-digit advantage with about 10 and a half minutes. A 7-3 scoring swing got the Crusaders within two possessions as Colvin hit a trey followed by a Matthew Richelsen (Medina, Minn.) layup. Gonzalez made his first free throws of the game to cut the gap 21-15 and 8:22 before half.

The Mountaineers responded with 10 unanswered over the next two minutes to surge to their largest lead of the game at the time 31-15. UD countered on three jumpers from Emmanuel Calton (Keller, Texas), Colvin, and Prince Giadolor (Rockwall, Texas) to get within 10. Gumbs and Colvin traded three-pointers and Dallas pulled within six (34-28) on two field goals from Kaiser. Schreiner's leading scorer put down the final points of the stanza with 25 seconds and the home team went into the break leading 36-28.

Early momentum stayed on the side of the Maroon and White as another great outburst propelled them to a 57-38 advantage eight minutes into the half, which was the widest margin in the game. Dallas quickly shrunk the deficit on a 10-2 run that was started with a layup by Calton and three by Victor Garate (Austin, Texas). Kelley interrupted the streak with a field goal, but Richelsen drained a trey and Calton followed with a jump shot to make it 59-48 just past the midway juncture.

Andrew Logan got the home team back up by 14 and 15 on consecutive Schreiner scores with threes on both field goals. After an exchange of points, Sarrat nailed his lone three and started a stretch of seven straight Dallas points. Gonzalez had the next four by making all his free throws and UD trailed seven (68-61) with 3:38. The Crusaders could not get closer than six as Calton put in a layup after SU split at the line, and then two more free throws by Gonzalez equaled back a Miller layup.

Gonzalez sank eight of his 10 free throws in the second half, with all coming less than five minutes at the end of regulation. This was his 3rd game in his career to hit and attempt double figures at the line.

Schreiner was also efficient at the charity stripe, making five-of-six for the remaining points to secure a win and remain the lone one-loss team in the SCAC.
